MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENTS

An insurance company may pay up to $15,000.00 to reimburse car accident victims for tuition, books, equipment and room and board if they have incurred these expenses as part of an education program that they can no longer participate in as a result of the car accident.

If a family member has passed as a result of the accident, the spouse and dependants of the deceased are entitled to claim death benefits as well as funeral cost reimbursement from the auto insurer.

The accident benefits insurer is required to pay up to $100 per week for housekeeping and home maintenance services if, as a result of the accident, only if you sustained a catastrophic impairment, or if you purchased optional coverage.

The accident benefits insurer is required to pay a caregiver benefit if you were a primary caregiver for a person in need of care and did not receive any remuneration for engaging in caregiving activities. The caregiver benefit is $250 per week plus up to $50 for each additional person requiring care, provided you sustained a catastrophic impairment as a result of your accident

If you were not employed at the time of the accident, you may be entitled to a non-earner benefit from the accident benefit insurer, for a weekly amount of $185. The waiting period for meeting eligibility for non-earner is now 4 weeks, meaning, for the first 4 weeks of your injury (following a car accident) you are not eligible for this benefit.

Many employers offer long-term disability benefits to employees as part of their group benefit packages. Long-term disability benefits provide income replacement to those who are unable to work for an indefinite period of time due to an illness or injury.
